Graston Technique

Our office has close to 20 years of experience utilizing the Graston Technique and it is easily one of, if not the most effective treatment in our office.

Graston technique is an instrument-aided, soft-tissue mobilization technique utilized to break up scar tissue.  The technique consists of several stainless steel instruments with varying angles and contours to match various parts of the body.  The treatment edge is a dull acute angle and is run along with the muscle.  A friction-reducing emollient is used to prevent any irritation to the skin.

The instruments are extremely sensitive to any bumps or ridges in the tissue, that are indicative of scar tissue, creating a diagnostic component to the technique as well.  The instruments physically break up the scar tissue and you can actually feel those bumps and ridges go away.  After the tools have been used to break up the scar tissue and tear them free of one another, it is vital to implement a very frequent, 3 times a day, stretching protocol.  The patient must keep those fibers moving so that, this time, the fibers do not stick back together as they heal.  Graston Technique is a skill-based technique a provider improves and develops over time.  Experience can have a huge impact on its effectiveness.
